Too Hot or Too Cold

Would you rather be too hot or too cold?

I'd rather be too cold. The way I see it, you can always put on more layers. Sweaters, hats, scarves, wool socks. And if, by some chance, you're sporting your whole wardrobe and are still cold, you can always build a fire. Or crank up the thermostat.

The problem with hot weather is there is only so much you can take off. And I'm just not someone comfortable walking around in teeny-tiny tops and short-shorts. I just don't like that much of me hangin' out. 'Course there's a lot more of me than some people. LOL! But still, what do you do on a hot day, when you're stripped down as far as God and decency will allow and you're still sweating?? What then? That's the thing I don't like about hot weather - sweat. Ick. There's nothing worse than chasing three boys around in the stifling heat all sweaty, sticky and smelly. Gross. It just makes me plain cranky.

Now, all that whining aside, good friends of ours (surrogate grandparents to our children) have a in-ground, heated, outdoor pool...that they let us use whenever we so wish. It makes those unbearable days bearable. So, you may not be hearing from me as often. I'll be poolside, relaxing, soaking up the sun...and jumping in the water when I feel sufficiently baked. :-)

Excuse for not Blogging #12

I'M OFF TO PLAY!!

The temperature here is supposed to reach 33 degrees Celsius (not sure what that is in Fahrenheit) and that means it's the perfect day to spend cooling off in the pool! So, we're off to spend some time relaxing and swimming. I'm hopeful this day will go smoother than my last attempt. LOL!

Have a great day, all!

Excuse for not Blogging #11

I took the boys and went swimming all day.

And by swimming, I mean I cooked lunch (barbecued hot dogs), lathered sunscreen, swimsuited, goggled and water-winged three kids. Rolled up the pool cover, cleaned up lunch, supervised swim, carried baby around.

After they were in the water, I put son #2's goggles back on...then back on again, and again, and again and again. Decided to try a different pair of goggles and proceeded to put them on again, and again, and again, and again.

Son #2 needed to pee. Got him out of the water, ran to the bathroom, rolled down swim trunks...waited...wiped...rolled up swim trunks. Walked him back to the pool, put on his headband again and put the goggles back on. Again and again and again.

I finally got myself ready, grabbed the baby and hopped in the water.

Five minutes goes by and son #1 needs to pee....of course. Ran him to the bathroom, rolled down swim trunks...waited...he wiped...rolled up swim trunks.

Then I heard son #2 screaming outside. He needed to pee. Hauled him inside, ran him to the bathroom......

Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.

Note: Baby was being watched by a friend who was swimming.

Finally put son #2 down for a nap. Dried, diapered and dressed baby and put him down for a nap. Put son #1 in quiet time. "Quiet Time" is code for tiny bits of quiet interspersed with interruptions of the 'mommy-I-need' variety.

Finally some time to lay in the sun and relax. What's that? Oh. Son #2 needs to pee....again!

Yeah, that's a brief (hee, hee) over view of my day! How was yours?

Willing to Drown!

Steven Curtis Chapman wrote a song that goes:

I'm divin' in, I'm goin' deep
In over my head I wanna be
Caught in the rush, tossed in the flow
In over my head I wanna go.
The river's deep, the river's wide,
The river's water is alive
So sink or swim I'm divin' in.

I've come to love that song. It talks about falling head-long into a love relationship with Jesus. I love the reckless abandon that the song portrays. There's no thought to survival, just simple surrender; a desire to be over your head, sink or swim.

I came across a saying that goes, "Dive deep; drown willingly." What an invigorating challenge. To take that deep breath and dive into deep waters. There's no wading involved; no cautious testing of the water. It doesn't say go in to your knees, or your waist or even your chin. It says dive deep, all the way, a hundred percent! Let Jesus be your very breath; let Him continue to breathe His life into your spirit. There's no need for a life preserver when we have THE Life Preserver!

So let's take the plunge! It's time to stop dipping our toes in the water and jump in. Get ready to get wet! Let's dive deep, willing to drown! Sink or swim.....
