The Things We Do

I just poked my husband's shoulder. "Do you think I'm crazy?" Dangerous question.

His response was a less than intelligent, "hrmphs."

"Do you think I'm crazy?"

"Hmm? Um-um."

"Would you think I'm crazy if I told you I just put a pizza in the oven?"

"Whah? Yes."

That's right. It's midnight and I just popped a pizza in the oven.

I was busy making my son's lunch when I had, what I like to call, a Good Mom Moment.

My boys have a food sensitivity to gluten which means my kindergartner can't take sandwiches like other kids his age. Usually I fill his lunch with some type of meat (tuna, chicken) and cheese and crackers along with other goodies.

For some reason I was struck with that sense of motherly awe. You know, the one that makes you well up with emotion and think, I would do anything for this child of mine. I would give my life for him. And since there's no impending doom to rescue him from, I did the next best thing. I made him pizza. At midnight.

No, I did not make my own crust. You can buy these gluten-free ones from the local health food store for an exorbitant price. I had one sitting in my freezer. I may be crazy, but I'm not that crazy.

So now I'm feeling warm and fuzzy and like a pretty darned good mother, if I do say so myself.

Hang on - Whew! Got busy typing and nearly burnt the pizza.

So now I'll be up until 1:00 a.m. waiting for it to cool. But that's okay. His smile will be worth the lost hours of sleep.

DM - What are you doing up at this hour?? I thought I was the only one insane enough to be blogging at this time of night! We must be blogger addicts...or something. :-)

I love those good mommy moments. It feels so good and wonderful inside.

Sometimes it amazes me how that much love can fit inside my heart.

A couple of years ago, I got up and made my kids the most incredible breakfast, including pancakes that I saw the mom in "13 going on 30" make. They were beautiful. I was so excited for the kids to come down. Couldn't wait until they saw the blessings and loved the pancakes.

They came down the stairs and looked at the cakes in silence. Finally, one of the twins spoke for them all....

"Yuck!"

...ah, the blessings of motherhood!

Awww... you ARE a good mom.

And I was up, too. Just not on the computer. I was comforting my vomiting puppy.

I wish I'd been making a pizza instead!

Will you be my mom? :o)

(Yes, I know I'm twice your age, and my real mom might take offense...)

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Such a good mama you are!! LOL That's like when I decide to make a chocolate cake at night so the kids have something delicious and nutritious -- or maybe just delicious -- to eat for breakfast. Add some vanilla ice cream and it's a well balanced meal.

his girl - LOL! All that work, and in the morning, too! You're MY hero.

Marianne - Oooh, sick puppies are so sad. Poor baby. I hope he's better.

Jen - Thanks. We are finally over the flu and I'm catching up on some much needed sleep.

Deb - I was anticipating his excitement, but I woke up feeling so rotten (remnants of the flu) that I totally forgot to tell him. So I didn't get to see his face, but I'm assuming he liked it. He didn't bring any home. ;-)

Lisa - HAHAHAHAHA! I only have those moments about once a month. The other times I'm just a regular, tired, sometimes grouchy, mom. ;-)

Travis - BWAHAHAHAHA!

Becky - I only wish I had more moments like that. I tried milking it with my four year old. I was like, "Benen, you know, Mom was up until the middle of the night making that pizza for you." He looked right through me and said, "Yeah, but can I play the Wii?"

Jenster - Will you be MY mom! That's my favorite breakfast. With a cup of coffee.
